
Gregorio Allegri was an Italian composer and priest born in 1582. A representative of the Roman School of composers, he became one of the greatest masters of Italian vocal polyphony in the first half of the 17th century. Allegri served as a choirboy in the cathedrals of Fermo and Tivoli, where he also distinguished himself as a talented composer. His most famous work is "Miserere" which was performed exclusively in the Sistine Chapel for many years. Gregorio Allegri contribution to the development of church music and polyphony remains significant to this day.
