Goombay Dance Band is a German group formed in 1979 by Oliver Bendt. The group's name refers to a small Caribbean bay in St. Lucia. Their music combines elements of soca, calypso, and Western popular music. The group achieved enormous commercial success in the early 1980s with hits such as "Sun of Jamaica" "Seven Tears" and "Aloha-Oe, Until We Meet Again" Goombay Dance Band gained popularity throughout Europe and South Africa, where their songs reached high chart positions. The group contributed significantly to the popularization of calypso and soca in the international music industry.
