
Geoffrey Oryema (1953–2018) was a Ugandan musician known for his work in the African music and rock genres. Born in Uganda, he left the country in 1977 after the assassination of his father and settled in France. His career gained international recognition through his collaboration with Real World Records , founded by Peter Gabriel . Among his best-known songs are "Makambo" and "Land of Anaka" Geoffrey Oryema contributed significantly to the popularization of African music on the global stage, combining traditional Ugandan motifs with modern arrangements.
