Gary Brooker (1945–2022) was a British vocalist, keyboardist, and composer, best known as the founder and frontman of the band Procol Harum . The band achieved worldwide fame with the hit "A Whiter Shade of Pale" which became one of the most recognizable songs of the 1960s. Brooker was also active in charity work, for which he was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 2003. His contribution to the development of rock music and unique performance style made him a significant figure in the history of the genre.
