Elizabeth Cotten (1895–1987) was an influential American folk and blues musician. A self-taught left-handed guitarist, she played a right-handed guitar upside down. This unique style, in which bass lines were played with the fingers and the melody with the thumb, became known as " Коттен picking." Her most famous song, "Freight Train" was written when she was only 11 years old. In 1984, she won a Grammy Award for Best Ethnic or Traditional Folk Album. Elizabeth Cotten left an indelible mark on music history, influencing generations of performers.
