Donny Hathaway (full name Donny Edward Hathaway ) was an American singer and musician born on October 1, 1945. Working in the R&B and soul genres, he became one of the key figures of his era. In 1969, Hathaway signed with Atlantic Records , and his first single, " The Ghetto, Part I " (1970), was celebrated as a significant event in soul music. He gained greatest recognition for his duets with Roberta Flack , which earned him a Грэмми Award. His life was tragically cut short in 1979. Hathaway left an indelible mark on the development of soul music.
