Don Shirley

Don Shirley (full name Donald Walbridge Shirley ) is an American pianist and composer, born in 1927 in the United States. He worked in the genre of traditional jazz and also created works combining elements of classical and experimental music. In the 1950s and 1960s, Don Shirley recorded several albums for the Cadence label. His works include organ symphonies, piano and cello concertos, string quartets, a one-act opera, and a symphonic poem based on James Joyce's novel Finnegans Wake. His work has had a significant influence on the development of jazz and classical music.
