Дмитрий Дмитриевич Шостакович was a prominent Soviet composer, born in St. Petersburg in 1906. Working in both classical and contemporary classical music, he became one of the most influential composers of the 20th century. His work includes 15 symphonies, 15 string quartets, operas, ballets, and numerous other works. Among his most famous works are "Седьмая симфония (Ленинградская)" , written during the Siege of Leningrad, and "Вторая фортепианная соната" . Шостакович was twice awarded the Stalin Prize and received numerous other awards. His contribution to world classical music remains unrivaled, and his music continues to inspire generations of performers and listeners.
