Dio was an American rock band formed in 1982 by Ronnie James Dio after his departure from Black Sabbath . The band played hard rock and heavy metal, becoming one of the leading representatives of classic metal. The band released such iconic albums as "Holy Diver" and "The Last in Line" and the song of the same name "Holy Diver" became the band's signature song. Dio active career ceased in 2006, when Ronnie James Dio joined Heaven & Hell . The band officially ended in 2010 following the death of its leader. Dio left a significant mark on the history of metal, inspiring many subsequent artists.
