David Gilmour (born 6 March 1946) is a British composer, guitarist, and vocalist, best known as one of the frontmen of the band Pink Floyd . In addition to his work with the band, Gilmour has had a successful solo career and has produced for other artists. His contributions to music have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2003 and the Outstanding Contribution Award at the Q Awards in 2008. Gilmour is also actively involved in charity, supporting various organizations. His work has had a significant influence on the development of progressive rock.
