
David Axelrod (1933–2017) was an American-born composer, arranger, and producer. His work spanned the genres of jazz, pop, and modern jazz. Beginning his career as a staff producer for record labels specializing in jazz, Axelrod became known for his work in soul and jazz by the mid-1960s. In 1968, he launched a solo career, releasing several albums in the 1970s that were distinguished by a unique sound: a combination of powerful drums, baroque orchestration, and avant-garde themes.
