Country Joe McDonald (real name Joseph Allen McDonald ) is an American singer and songwriter born in 1942. He rose to prominence as the frontman of the psychedelic rock band Country Joe and the Fish , one of the most politically active groups of the 1960s, associated with the New Left movement. After the band's dissolution in 1971, McDonald launched a solo career, performing protest songs with acoustic guitar and poetry readings. His work continues the tradition of socially engaged music established during the counterculture era.
