
Cole Porter (1891–1964) was an American composer and songwriter who worked in the traditional jazz genre. One of the few Tin Pan Alley writers, he wrote both music and lyrics for his works. Porter became known for musical comedies such as "Kiss Me, Kate" "Anything Goes" and "DuBarry Was a Lady" Among his best-known songs are "Night and Day" "Love for Sale" and "I've Got You Under My Skin" He also wrote music for films, including "Born to Dance" and "Stage Fright" His works were distinguished by the complexity of their compositions and the sophistication of their lyrics, making him one of the preeminent composers of light comedy in American history.
