Chris Whitley was an American blues/rock singer, songwriter, and guitarist born on August 31, 1960. During his 25-year career, he released over a dozen albums, and two of his songs reached the top 50 of Billboard mainstream rock charts. Whitley was a two-time Independent Music Awards Award winner. His work combined elements of blues, jazz, and rock, making his sound unique. He also recorded covers of songs by artists from various genres. Chris Whitley made a significant contribution to the development of blues-rock while remaining true to the genre's traditions. He died in 2005 from lung cancer at the age of 45.
