Buraka Som Sistema was a Portuguese band from Lisbon, formed in 2006. The group worked in the genres of dance music, electronica, and pop, with a strong influence from the Angolan style of kuduro. In 2008, Buraka Som Sistema won MTV Europe Music Awards in the category of "Best Portuguese Act" and was nominated for "Best European Act." The group released several successful tracks, including "Kalemba (Wegue Wegue)" which received international acclaim. Their contribution to the popularization of kuduro and dance music made them a significant part of the music scene. Buraka Som Sistema ended their activity in 2016.
