Boogie Down Productions was an American hip-hop group from the South Bronx, formed in 1985. Originally a duo of rapper KRS-One and DJ Scott La Rock , they were later joined by D-Nice . In 1987, the group released their debut album, Criminal Minded , which became a classic of the genre. However, shortly after its release, Scott La Rock was murdered. Following the tragedy KRS-One continued to release albums under the group's name, inviting new members. In 1993, the project ended, and KRS-One began a solo career. Boogie Down Productions made a significant contribution to the development of socially conscious hip-hop.
