Blur is a British rock band formed in 1988 in London. The band consists of Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James, and Dave Rowntree. Their debut album, Leisure combined elements of Madchester and shoegazing, but by 1992 the band had shifted their style, drawing inspiration from artists such as The Kinks , The Beatles , and XTC . Albums such as Modern Life Is Rubbish , Parklife , and The Great Escape cemented their status as leaders of Britpop. Their chart rivalry with Oasis was a defining event of the 1990s. Blur made a significant contribution to the popularization of British rock music.
