Bauhaus is a British alternative rock band formed in 1978 in Northampton. Initially named Bauhaus 1919, the group soon dropped the numerical suffix. Known as pioneers of the gothic rock genre, their music combined dark, atmospheric tones with post-punk influences. Their debut single, "Bela Lugosi's Dead", became a cult classic and is often credited as one of the first gothic rock tracks. The band released influential albums such as "In the Flat Field" and "Mask". Despite disbanding in 1983, they reunited several times, most notably from 1998 to 2008. Bauhaus left an indelible mark on alternative music, shaping the gothic rock movement.
