
Barrett Strong was an American singer and songwriter born on February 5, 1941, in the United States. Working in the R&B, soul, and pop genres, he rose to prominence as one of the first artists signed to the Motown label. His single "Money (That's What I Want)" became the label's first major hit. He later focused on songwriting and co-wrote such classics as "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" and "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" Barrett Strong made a significant contribution to the development of soul music, leaving an indelible mark on the genre's history.
