He gained international fame in the late 1960s and 1970s with hits like "Baby, I Love You" (1969) and "Rock Me Gently" (1974), the latter topping the U.S. singles charts. In 1968, he co-wrote "Sugar, Sugar" and performed on the recording as part of The Archies. The song spent four weeks at number one and was named "Record of the Year" in 1969.
