
Amilcare Амилькаре Понкьелли was an Italian composer born in 1834 in Paderno Fasolaro, Italy. He is considered one of the most prominent figures in 19th-century opera. His most famous opera, "Джоконда" , first performed in 1876, brought him international recognition, particularly for its celebrated "Dance of the Hours." Понкьелли also worked as a conductor and teacher, and among his students was Пьетро Масканьи , composer of Cavalleria Rusticana. His contributions to the development of Italian opera, particularly in the areas of orchestration and dramaturgy, had a significant influence on subsequent generations of composers.
