She began her career performing on Star Search and singing with Gladys Knight. At 12, she signed with Jive Records and Blackground Records, supported by her uncle Barry Hankerson. Her debut album, "Age Ain't Nothing but a Number", produced by R. Kelly, sold three million copies and was certified double platinum in the U.S. After legal issues with R.
