A Perfect Circle is an American alternative rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1999 by guitarist Billy Howerdel and Tool vocalist Maynard James Keenan. The band released four studio albums, with their debut, Mer de Noms, arriving in 2000. This was followed by Thirteenth Step in 2003 and eMOTIVe in 2004, the latter featuring reimagined cover songs. After a hiatus, during which Keenan focused on Tool and his solo project Puscifer, and Howerdel released music as Ashes Divide, the band returned to the scene. A Perfect Circle is known for their atmospheric sound and contributions to the alternative rock genre.
