Pilot is a Scottish soft/pop rock band formed in Edinburgh in 1973 by former Bay City Rollers David Paton and Billy Lyall, along with drummer Stuart Tosh. They later added guitarist Ian Bairnson, who became a permanent member from their second album onward. The band is best known for their hit single "Magic" which became an international success. Other popular songs include "January" which reached number one in the UK charts. Pilot made a significant contribution to the development of 1970s pop rock, combining melodicism with a lighthearted sound.
