Vaan mitä vastaat, kun

Onnea;

onnesi on käsillä

Tässä lyhyessä hetkessä

Jossa kesä on kadonnut…

Syksy talveksi taipuu jo

Niin on yksi aivan alussa

Mutta toinen on jo lopussa:

Riuhtoo vaisuilla voimillaan

Kohti harmautta raahustaa

Nyt voit hyvästisi toivottaa

Ja myös hyväksyä, että maa

Nielee sen minkä synnytti

Eikä aio palauttaa

Tuon hetken tullen me muistamme sen;

Muistamme kadonneet, kuolleet

Jotka jo otettiin sinne pimeän syliin

Muistamme sen vääjäämättömyyden;

Rakkaimman ihmisen

Nimi kaikesta katoaa

Viiva vedetään sen yli

Kuolema kulkee täällä päällä maan

Tekee joukossamme tekojaan:
