Буйний Вітер мандрував,

Як вернув до Чортомлику,

Сивий Дуб його спитав:

«Чи то й справді перевівся

Любий мій минулий цвіт,

І онуків більш немає

І не являться на Світ?

Що ж, лети аж із листям моїм,

Зазирни в наддніпрянські оселі,

І повідай мої слова

Невеселі…

Полети, хоч із гіллям моїм

До Десни, до Дністра і до Бугу,

В горах та у лісах розвій

Мою тугу…"

«Не сумуйте, Діду,

— Буйний враз відповідав,

Ще живі онуки Ваші,

Я ж до кожного літав!

На Чумацькім, Слава Богу,

Зорі яснії зійшли,

Всі зібралися в дорогу,

Лиш моліться, щоб дійшли…

Спи, Старий, хоч на мить спочинь,

Тобі ж гостей по ночі стрічати,

Коней їхніх в Чортомлику

Напувати…

Спи Дідусь, листя бережи,

Ти є цвітом Славетного роду,

Не журись, завтра і тобі

До Походу!"
