Lonely taxi take me home

What creatures watch from dark in the forest

The headlights shift like ghosts on the tree trunks

The cows blink wet black bulbs at us

The crystal sky will call the frost

And I should be in bed before the dawn

And you’re lying on the road

And no one knows

For everybody else is sleeping

How long has it been

No creatures peer from old netted curtains

stern from the moonlit sheets

The silence echoes through the town

The streetlamps leering at the ground

Oh, I should be in bed before the dawn

Lie down

Close your eyes

This bed is like a cloud

I will drop without a sound

Just as the dawn comes round

And everybody else awakes
