Vorrei comprare una strada nel centro di Nuova York

La vorrei lunga e affollata di gente di ogni età

E tanta luce nei buffi tubi di vetro colorato

Una fontana con mille bambini che giocano

Un gatto grigio che scalda assonnato il suo angolo

E voli alti contro i colori dell’arcobaleno

Ed al tramonto vorrei sedermi all’ombra di un grattacielo

Fino a che io sentirò una voce che mi dirà:

«Scusami William, mi spiace per te ma è la fine »

I would like to buy a street in downtown New York

I would like it long and crowded with people of all ages

And lots of light in the funny colored glass tubes

A fountain with a thousand children playing

A gray cat sleepily warms its corner

And fly high against the colors of the rainbow

And at sunset I would like to sit in the shadow of a skyscraper

Until I hear a voice that will tell me:

"Sorry William, I'm sorry for you but it's the end"
