Das ich der Meister bin, gedenke!

Dein Teil ist es, Knecht zu sein

Will die schwarze Kunst dich lehren

Bist dafür auf ewig mein

Siehst du meine schwarzen Vögel?

Siehst du dort die Raben mein?

Einer ging, mir blieben Elfe

Doch du sollst der Zwölfte sein!

Leicht am Tage sei die Arbeit

Ohne Müh das Werk vollbracht

Wirst schon bald zu Kreuze kriechen

Ruf ich dich zur Neumondnacht

Hinter Hause steht ein Schuppen

Drinnen liegt etwas für dich

Ist aus Holz, die schwere Kiste

Stirbst im neuen Jahr für mich

Warst gezeichnet, du mit Asche

Vor dem Kreuz am Wegesrand

Trägst das Mal auf deiner Stirne

Ist dein Innerst’s mir bekannt

Sahst du auch die Reih der Gräber

Vor dem Weg zur Mühle stehn?

Niemand sah dich hierher kommen

Niemand wird dich weggehen sehn!
