Destrier, che all’armi usato

fuggì dal chiuso albergo,

scorre la selva, il prato,

agita il crin sul tergo

e fa co’ suoi nitriti

le valli risonar.

Ed ogni suon che ascolta

crede che sia la voce

del cavalier feroce

che l’anima a pugnar.

Destrier, who used weapons

fled from the closed hotel,

the forest flows, the meadow,

wave the crin on the back

and does with his neighs

the valleys resound.

And every sound he hears

thinks it's the voice

of the ferocious cavalier
