Quand j’ai débuté, j’avais vingt ans

Cinquante et des, début printemps

Pendant tout c' temps-là

J’ai surveillé prisonnièrement

Un condamné qu’avait quarante ans à tirer

Moi qu’avais connu des tas d' pays

Moi qu’avais vécu des tas d' folies

Quand j’ui racontais tout c' que j’avais fait

En fait c’est lui qui s'évadait

N’empêche qu'à force de tourner en rond

Ça finit par vous fout' le bourdon

J’avais plus l' moral, ça lui a fait très mal

Mais un soir je m' suis fait la malle

Tout le monde s’en fout, j' suis plus rien du tout

J' peux quand même pas r’tourner au trou

But one evening I packed up
