Regnet som föll för några timmar sen

Ligger kvar och gatan är så våt

Den blänker som guld i sken av lamporna

Och döljer skiten som finns ovanpå

Och dom vilsna

Dom som letar efter frihet här

Hittar ingenstans dit dom kan gå

Dom tar varann i hand

Och gömmer sig i skuggorna

Och tycker väl att det blir bäst så

Månljus gatuljus billjus stjärnljus

Rött ljus finns det med

Men vad bryr jag mig om

Vad det finns för ljus

Bara det finns så jag kan se

Medan poeterna diktar sagan om vår stad

Om hur den är

Och hur den skulle kunnat vart

Så hinner tusen av oss dö

Och tusen av oss födas

Och tusen åka hem

För att mörkret föll så snart

I hörnen där står männen

Och ser ut som om dom pratar

Men dom lurar inte mej

Och tjejerna i korta kjolar

Frågar lite sakta:

«Vill du ha mej eller ej?»

Och nere i Kungsan tänder Harry sin pipa igen

Och elden Harry tänder dej

I en djungel där ingen vågar gråta mer

Är det de enda som kan hindra dej

Det är kväll nu

Och mörkret faller över oss

Kväll nu och djungeln nästan kräver oss

Några tappra har repat mod

Och går ut för att se

Vad den här stan är gjord av

Och leta efter nån som vill behöva den

Nere på stan sitter Harry i ett hörn

Och skrattar högt

Och tror att han mår väl

Medan dom vilsna skriker

Gud om du finns kom och hjälp oss

För vi fryser snart ihjäl

Och dom som lurats till att tro

Att deras jeans och deras frihet

Är en och samma sak

Dom skyndar hem och gömmer sig i ensamhet

Och kommer aldrig mer tillbaks

Och vi som aldrig får nog

Av att leva här

Vi vet att regnet som föll för några timmar sen

Utan tårar över city
