Jambalaya crient les Indiens qui se rassemblent

Jambalaya répond au loin l'écho qui tremble

Et soudain sur les eaux où tout danse

On voit filer les piroguiers qui s'élancent

Les Indiens aujourd’hui sont en fête

Dans la nuit tous les tam-tam leur répétent

Et là-bas comme le veut la coutume

Les yeux brillent autour des feux qui s’allument

Jambalaya dit le sorcier qui saute et danse

Jambalaya crient les guerriers levant leurs lances

Et les chefs sous leurs salves et leurs plumes

Fument en rang le calumet sous la lune

A minuit quand les flammes rugissent

Les Indiens font au ciel des sacrifices

Le grand chef choisissant sa compagne

Tout en chantant vers le sorcier l’accompagne

Jambalaya mais dans leur tente selon l’usage

Jambalaya c’est maintenant le mariage

Sous les yeux flamboyants des idoles

Et tout à coup un rythme fou qui s’envole

Jambalaya comme une loi, la fête indienne

Jambalaya hurle de joie et se déchaine

Mais bientôt dans le jour qui s'éclaire

Le chant indien va s’effacer puis se taire

Jambala-ya Jambala-ya Jambala-ya

Jambalaya shout the Indians who gather

Jambalaya responds in the distance to the trembling echo

And suddenly on the waters where everything dances

We see the boatmen rushing by

Indians today are celebrating

In the night all the tom-toms repeat to them

And there as usual

The eyes shine around the fires that light up

Jambalaya says the wizard who jumps and dances

Jambalaya shout the warriors raising their spears

And the chiefs under their volleys and their feathers

Smoke in a row the pipe under the moon

At midnight when the flames roar

Indians make sacrifices to heaven

The great chief choosing his mate

While singing towards the wizard accompanies him

Jambalaya but in their tent as usual

Jambalaya is now the wedding

Under the flaming eyes of the idols

And suddenly a crazy rhythm flies away

Jambalaya as a law, the Indian feast

Jambalaya screams with joy and goes wild

But soon in the brightening day

The Indian song will fade then be silent
