Klar, jeder Mensch wär' gern im Leben einmal Star,

aber leider sind die schönen Märchen gar

nicht wahr und alles sieht nur so aus!

Schön sind die Hummer und die Austern anzuseh’n,

aber nach dem happy end, da muß man geh’n —

da steh’n die Schlackwurststullen zu Haus.

Wenn ich sonntags in mein Kino geh'

und im Film die feinen Leute seh',

denk' ich immer wieder: Könnt' ich mal,

ach könnt' ich mal genauso glücklich sein!

Alle Tage Sekt und Kaviar,

und ein Auto und ein Schloß sogar!

Sowas wünsch' ich mir schon lang

in meinen kühnsten Träumerei'n.

Auf dem Fünfundsiebzig-Pfennig-Platz

sehn' ich mich nach einem süßen Schatz,

der genauso wie im Film am Schluß

mich glücklich machen muß.

Wenn ich sonntags in mein Kino geh'

und den Himmel voller Geigen seh',

träum' ich noch am Montag früh:

Einmal leben so wie die —

doch zu sowas kommt man nie!

Sure, everyone would like to be a star once in their life,

but unfortunately the beautiful fairy tales are gone

isn't it and everything just looks like it!

The lobsters and the oysters are nice to look at,

but after the happy ending, you have to go —

there the Schlackwurststullen are at home.

When I go to my cinema on Sunday

and see the fine people in the film,

I keep thinking: could I,

Oh, could I be just as happy!

Every day champagne and caviar,

and even a car and a castle!

I've been wishing for something like that for a long time

in my wildest dreams.

On the seventy-five pfennig place

I long for a sweet treasure

the same as in the film at the end

must make me happy.

When I go to my cinema on Sunday

and see the sky full of violins

I still dream on Monday morning:

Live like them once —

but you never get to something like that!
