Die Erinnerung malt lange Schatten

Ich öffne die Tür, da stehst du vor mir

Die Erinnerung tut noch zu weh

Wie leise du sprichst, ich hör dich fast nicht

Und trotzdem kann ich dich verstehen

Du sagst nur: «Verzeih» — nach so langer Zeit

Da soll ich dir einfach vergeben?

Du weißt nicht, was du da verlangst

Ich weiß nur, dass ich das nicht kann

Deine Zeit ist vorbei, ich hab überlebt

Es ist besser für dich, wenn du sofort gehst

Du hast keine Macht mehr über mich

Das Haus überm Meer, ich schließe die Tür

Und streiche dich aus meinem Leben

Für mich bist du tot, damit geht’s mir gut

Ich war wieder zu Haus, da rief jemand an:

Ich hab ihn leibhaftig gesehen

Ich sollt' ihm verzeihen, doch ich sagte nein

Ich wünschte, ich hätt' ihm vergeben

I was back at home when someone called:

«Have you heard that something happened to him?!

The doctors couldn't do anything for him..."

I met him earlier in the house over the sea

I've seen him in person

I should forgive him, but I said no

I wish I had forgiven him

Is finally empty
