So my heart did a back flip

I guess that’s what they’d say

I hadn’t seen her since high school graduation

I brought my old hopes

She brought her fiance

And we shared some inane conversation

Just as beautiful, oh just as charming

But lord, what is this new dimension

She has the dignity of a life not for me

Plans that I needed a wrench in

I guess it goes to show

Something a young man ought to know

Angels are just people too

In my dark ages

When I was the earth

And my universe spun out around

They lined the firmament

These angels of mine

So pretty, and so far from the ground

They’re just as beautiful, oh just as charming

But lord, what is this new dimension

They have the dignity of a life not for me

And oh, when I smashed out the pedestal

What a pleasant surprise

Here the all were, half of the world

Only holy through my teenage eyes

Just as beautiful, oh just as charming

But lord, what is this third dimension

Inconceivable that a girl could be more

Than a foil for my romantic pretensions

So I guess it goes to show
