Das Knistern der Dünen, den Sturm, der laut lacht

Schenk mir den klirrenden Atem der Kälte

Die nahtlosen Schnüre des Regens am Meer

Schenk mir den Nebel, der alles entstellte

Die tiefschwarzen Nächte und Wolken wie Teer

Gib mir noch einmal den Strand meiner Kindheit

Mit Muscheln und Bernstein auf trockenem Weiß

Gib mir den salzigen Wind meiner Ostsee

Das Jammern der Möwe, die hoffnungsvoll kreist

Gib mir die Molen mit moosgrünen Beinen und Wellen

Die singen ihr endloses Lied

Gib mir die Farben, die still sich vereinen

Den Atem der Kindheit

Der lautlos entflieht

The seamless cords of rain by the sea

The deep black nights and clouds like tar

With shells and amber on dry white

Give me the salty wind of my Baltic Sea

The wail of the gull circling hopefully

Give me the moles with moss green legs and waves

They sing their endless song
