Die Naechte und ihr selbstvergessener Beat

Ich bin kein Kaempfer, sagt der alte Heizer

Bevor er wieder nach Italien zieht

I’m Radio die kalten Gluecksversprechen:

Genug jetzt von der Depression gehoert!

Ihr Glueck klingt wie ein Sittlichkeitsverbrechen

Nur dass das ploetzlich keine Sau mehr stoert

Nicht einverstanden, dass jetzt immer oefter

Ein Wort wie Krieg auf trockne Lippen kommt

Macht euch nichts vor, er hat doch laengst begonnen

Vielleicht ist das Gehirn schon ausgebombt

Sie saeubern ihre Republik von Buergern

Du laesst es zu, denn Deine war es nie

Und Freiheit heisst: gelitten sein als Zaungast

Beid dieser Autopsie von Utopie

Mit Dir ist wirklich nicht viel anzufangen

Doch bist Du, wenn’s auch keiner glaubt, nicht stolz

Auf Deine bodenlose Unversehrtheit —

Bist halt aus keinem, auch nicht: andrem, Holz

Nicht einverstanden mit dem lauen Gleichmut

Der schon die Frage fuer die Antwort nimmt

Der Winter liest belustigt die Plakate

Wo draufsteht, dass er kommt, und zwar bestimmt

Nicht einverstanden mit dem Schmerz der Frauen

Und dass Du Dich in ihre Langmut legst

Doch wer kann, wenn Du gehst, Dir garantieren

Dass Du Dich auf Dich selber zubewegst?

Nicht einverstanden mit der harten Stimme

Mit der man der Bequemlichkeit Dich zeiht

Als Dissident in toedlich duennen Lueften

Keuchst Du der Erde zu: nur keinen Neid!

Nicht einverstadnen mit dem Gang der Dinge

Doch nie sich ihnen in den Weg gestellt

Before moving back to Italy

On the radio the cold promises of happiness:

Enough heard about the depression now!

Your happiness sounds like a crime against sex

Only that suddenly no longer bothers sow

Disagree that now more and more often

A word like war comes on dry lips

Make no mistake, it has long since begun

Maybe the brain is already bombed out

They are purging their republic of citizens

You allow it because it was never yours

And freedom means: being suffered as a spectator

Both this autopsy of utopia

There really isn't much to do with you

But you are not proud, even if no one believes it

To your bottomless integrity —

You're not made of any, not even: other, wood

Disagree with the tepid equanimity

Who already takes the question for the answer

Winter reads the posters with amusement

Where it says he's coming, and definitely

Disagree with women's pain

And that you put yourself into their long-suffering

But who can guarantee you when you go

That you are moving towards yourself?

Disagree with the harsh voice

With which one accuses you of comfort

As a dissident in deadly thin air

If you gasp at the earth: don't be jealous!

Disagree with the way things are going

But never stood in their way

The only child in the hornet's nest of truth

Disagree with the way the world is going
