Вернешься – ты будешь героем,

И стало тревожно, не скрою,

И что-то кольнуло в груди.

Полшага вперед – и в века!

Как трудно в тяжелом молчаньи

Коснуться рукой козырька!

Расправить шинельные складки,

Прислушаться к дальней пальбе,

Взять светлую сумку взрывчатки,

И тут же забыть о себе.

А почестей мы не просили,

Особых наград за дела:

Нам общая слава России

Солдатской наградой была…

Да много ли надо солдату,

Что знал и печаль и успех:

По трудному счастью – на брата,

Да красное знамя – на всех.
