Es geht ein weißer Schemen

Der sich aus Nebel webt

Tief im Walde, aus dem Moor

Unnahbar und verborgen

Bis sich der Schleier hebt

Man sagt, die weiße Dame

Die aus den Wassern steigt

Kennt den Pfad der Seelen all

Und brennt sie stumm als Omen

Wenn sich ein Nebel neigt

Dort sah ich sie am See

Als jung, voll Wunder schön

Gehüllt in Morgentau

Durch die Wiesen gehen

So ging ich früh am Morgen

Zum See, zum stillen See

Und senkte ins Wasser, kühl und klar

Mein silbernen Ring als Gabe

Für den Segen der weißen Dame

Wohl auf der Schwelle gehen

Durch die Dämmerung, unsichtbar

Im Grell der Nebel wüten
