Die Flüsse der Erde und strömten hinaus

Über das belebte Land, um sich zu retten

Flohen die Menschen zu den Bergen hinaus

Und als die Flüsse so furchtbar erstanden

Schoben Ozeane sich über den Strand

Und schluckten alles was noch vorhanden

Ohn Unterschied das ganze Land

Leben heißt, sich immerfort zu wandeln

Wer am Alten hängt, der wird nicht alt

Ich begann sofort zu handeln

Und das Wasser schien mir nicht mehr kalt

Am Anfang konnten wir noch schwimmen

Doch einer nach dem andern sank hinab

So mancher sang ein Lied und ihre schrillen Stimmen

Folgten den Ersäuften ins nasse Grab

Doch kurz bevor die Kräfte mich verließen

Fiel mir ein, was man mich dereinst gelehrt

Nur wer sich ändert, den wird nicht verdrießen

Die Veränderung, die die Welt erfährt

Green scales grew on me without haste

And when the water closed my mouth too

Was I adapted to the new element
