Soy el hijo que anda ausente de sus padres

Y a que su tierra ya no volvió

La bendición de mi madre me acompaña

Y a donde vaya la llevo yo

Una mañana, cuando salí:

«Este es la casa donde siempre te he esperado

Y no te olvides, nunca de mi»

Yo vi es sus ojos el llanto que brotaba

Desde su frente me despedí

Y ahora que lejos me encuentro de tu lado

Todo es tristeza, pobre de mí

Diosito Santo, te pido me la cuides

Que es el tesoro que tengo yo

Y el día en que vuelva y no la he encontrara

También quisiera morirme yo
