E muito se espantam da nossa brancura entretanto

E muito pasmavam de olhar olhos claros assim

Palpavam as mãos e os braços e outras partes, portanto

Esfregavam de cuspo minha pele para ver se era enfim

Uma tinta ou se era de estampa uma carne tão branca

Vendo assim que era branco o meu corpo e a brancura de então

Extasiam e muito se pasmam de tudo em admiração;

E eram os brancos da sombra nascidos do mar pelas naus

Guiados pelos ventos do céu e pelo voo das aves;

Eles escondem as suas vergonhas cobertas de estopas

E eram grandes e gordos e baços e enxutos, os pretos

Pelas ventosidades confundem traseiros e bocas

E tapam estes e estas cobram calafetos

E os mais pardos lá vão quase nús, vão ao léu, gabirus

E de tetas até à cintura há mulheres crepitantes

Tão desnudas meneiam na dança o seu corpo dançante;

E eram os brancos da sombra nascidos do mar pelas naus

Guiados pelos ventos do céu e pelo voo das aves;

E muito se espantam da nossa brancura entretanto
